To begin, At Construction Concepts Group you will always work directly with David, the licensed contractor. From start to finish David will have complete oversee of your project. He will ensure the work completed is done according to Florida building codes, the authority having jurisdiction and to the highest level of standards. As a customer, you always maintain one on one contact with the individual who is fully responsible for your project. Additionally, according to Florida state statute 489, the contractor of record is responsible for your project in its entirety. The contractor of record is ultimately responsive financially and logically for all aspects of your project.

But what is the difference between hiring a licensed and unlicensed contractor?

You are so close to finding the right contractor who will bring your vision to reality. Your decision has come down to two choices, both are similar in almost every category, but there is one difference, one is the licensed contractor of record and the other is a sales associate representing a contractor of record.

Often, a client will consider an unlicensed contractor because their prices are lower than licensed contractors. Beware of this common trap, because although the initial cost is cheaper, an unlicensed contractor will cost you in the long run. Regardless of the category of construction, you want to use a licensed contractor. In fact, contractors must be licensed in Florida to do most all construction work. IT IS ACTUALLY THE STATE LAW!

If a contractor is licensed, it means that they have a legitimate claim to be a professional in their industry. They are making a legitimate career out of this profession and are not simply making a quick cash grab.

If a contractor holds a license for construction work, it proves that they have met certain state of Florida requirements to acquire the license and that they also maintain those standards when working a contract to uphold their license. Acquiring a license is a costly endeavor for the contractor to achieve and then maintain, which shows their commitment to being certified and legal and ability to obey construction law.

Having a license also shows that the contractor is serious about each job they do, and they won’t cut corners when it comes to their work on your construction project. On the other hand, an unlicensed contractor cannot give you the same assurance.

When hiring a contractor, there are three questions we always advise our customers to ask:

1) Are you working directly with the contractor of record?

2) Will I get to meet the contractor of record?

3) Will the contractor of record be on site and have all of the knowledge pertaining the project at hand?

If the response to the above line of questioning is no, proceed with caution.

By now you’ve probably noticed your electric bill creeping higher and higher as the year goes on, this is the Sunshine State after all! As we head into the summer months this is an unfortunate but inevitable effect of the extreme heat. Wouldn’t you love to save money on your monthly electric bill and improve your home’s energy efficiency? If the answer is yes, you should consider replacing your old, drafty, single pane windows with energy efficient windows.

At CCG we exclusively use Simonton windows for all our projects. As an Energy Star partner, Simonton carries some of the most efficient windows available. For four consecutive years they have been rated the highest in customer satisfaction in the JD Power & Associates Windows and Patio Doors Study. According to a few of their customers: “energy savings appear to be 20% or more.” after installing Simonton windows.

The windows provided by Simonton are superior to the windows offered by competitors for many reasons:

  • Two (2) sheets of Low-E coated glass help deflect the sun’s UV rays from entering your home.
  • The argon gas that fills the space between the glass panels is six (6) times more dense than air and helps provide even more insulation.
  • The spacer along the sides of the windows is designed to reduce heat transfer at the edges of the insulated glass unit. These spacers also combat water damage by reducing condensation and keeping moisture out.
  • The vinyl frame reinforcement is an excellent insulator and is made to withstand harsh weather conditions.

Besides being highly efficient and saving you money on your electric bill these windows can also increase the resale value of your home, help to reduce outside noise, and better protect your furniture and floors from UV damage. Additionally, Simonton’s windows have been tested in winds of up to 170 miles an hour to ensure they are hurricane safe. Be sure to visit their website for more information and to check out their great products, https://www.simonton.com/.

Phyllis Zee, MD, PhD states in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine, “Employees with windows in the workplace received 173 percent more white light exposure during work hours and slept an average of 46 minutes more per night than employees who did not have the natural light exposure in the workplace. There also was a trend for workers in offices with windows to have more physical activity than those without windows.”

Outdoor living spaces, balconies, patios, porches, stairs and verandas can be a great gathering place to enjoy the fresh air while still having the comforts of the inside home. The amenities, furniture, and décor lend themselves to a great spot to entertain. Often over looked is the flooring. Clients tend to think "Pavers" when discussing outdoor spaces. That is far from the truth. Ceramic and natural stone can be the touch that gives your space the "Wow" factor. Penetrating sealers and special epoxy grouts allow for a water resistant barrier that saves the flooring from water damage. Care must be taken regarding finishes as glazed tile gets very slippery when wet. A good concrete substrate is essential to a long lasting floor as well. Poorly installed concrete will crack and thus the tile above will do so. Let your imagination run wild regarding outdoor flooring and call our professionals for advise when selecting materials.
